Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Plant Manager to oversee all aspects of
manufacturing at our palm kernels processing mill. The ideal candidate will be responsible for production planning, budgeting, equipment maintenance, worker safety, legal compliance, inventory control, and quality assurance. This role requires a hands-on leader capable of ensuring the factory operates at full capacity with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Management: Oversee daily operations to ensure efficient and timely
production of palm kernel oil. - Production Planning: Develop and implement production schedules to meet
organizational targets and customer demands. - Budgeting: Prepare and manage the factory's operational budget, ensuring
cost-effective operations. - Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained in
optimal working condition, coordinating regular maintenance and prompt repairs as needed. - Worker Safety: Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure all factory operations comply with local, national, and
industry-specific regulations and standards. - Inventory Management: Monitor and control inventory levels of raw materials and
finished products to prevent shortages or overstocking. - Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality control processes to ensure products meet established standards.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor factory staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Reporting: Generate regular reports on production metrics, equipment status, and other key performance indicators for senior management review.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing production and maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience in the palm oil industry or in a manufacturing plant is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of production management, equipment maintenance, and quality control processes.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in budgeting and inventory management.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Terms of Reference: Plant Manager
1. Introduction:
The Plant Manager at J-Palm Liberia's Meleekie facility plays a critical role in overseeing the efficient and effective operation of the palm kernel oil processing mill. This position requires a dynamic leader with a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and team management to ensure the factory operates at full capacity with minimal supervision.
2. Objectives:
- Achieve and maintain optimal production levels to meet organizational goals.
- Ensure all operations adhere to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Foster a productive and motivated workforce through effective leadership and training.
3. Scope of Work:
The Plant Manager will be responsible for:
- Production Oversight: Manage all aspects of the production process, ensuring efficient operations and timely output.
- Maintenance Coordination: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance
schedule for all equipment to minimize downtime and extend machinery lifespan. - Safety Management: Conduct regular safety audits, implement corrective actions, and promote a culture of safety among all staff.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on industry regulations and ensure all factory practices comply with legal and environmental standards.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels, manage procurement of raw materials, and oversee storage of finished products to optimize supply chain efficiency.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures, conduct regular inspections, and address any issues affecting product quality.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and evaluate factory staff, encouraging professional development and high performance.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed reports on production, maintenance activities, safety incidents, and other relevant metrics to senior management.
4. Deliverables:
- Consistently meet or exceed production targets.
- Maintain equipment in excellent working condition with minimal unplanned downtime.
- Ensure zero tolerance for safety violations and achieve a record of no workplace
accidents. - Achieve full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to support uninterrupted production.
- Ensure all products meet or surpass quality standards.
- Develop a skilled and efficient workforce with high morale and low turnover rates.
- Provide accurate and timely reports to management.
5. Reporting Line:
The Plant Manager will report directly to the CEO of J-Palm Liberia.
6. Duration:
This is a full-time position with an initial probationary period of three months, subject to
performance evaluation.
